TS Oxylious is inspired by the oeuvre of Christoffel van Dijck who was a master punchcutter and supplied types to a legendary publisher Elzevir. The fame of Elzevir’s books was once described as “worth its weight in gold” and there were many typefaces named Elzevir in the past. For some reason, it was dwindled and is almost forgotten nowadays. However, its relatively large x-height, as it was a Dutch tradition, and sharpness are amiable to contemporary readers and electric devices.

TS Oxylious collection has “optical sizes.” Each font has a specific intended point size for its use. Generally speaking, wider letter spacing is comfortable for setting small running texts. Also, high contrast and delicate hairlines made the texts difficult to read and most of the details are hard to see. On the other hand, tighter spacing, elegant contrast, and rich details are preferable features for titling. TS Oxylious collection consists of three different optical sizes: display, subhead, and text. Suggested styles for different sizes: TS Oxylious Display — optimized 30pt or above. TS Oxylious Subhead — optimized between 14pt to 30pt. TS Oxylious Text — optimized 14pt or below. These are just suggestions and not a rule to follow. Reading distance, background color also affect appearance of texts.
